As a director, Wright and cinematographer Bobby Bukowski (“99 Homes”) strike a pleasant balance between lyrical pictures of the attractive backdrop and close-ups that reveal their characters’ trauma. There’s a shot late within the film in which Edee is standing close to the edge of a cliff and I was convinced she was going to fall. “Land” has a finely tuned steadiness between the brilliant factor about this world and the fact that that beauty hides so many aspects that may kill you, from bears looking for meals to brutal winter snowstorms to, sure, cliffs. Anne McCabe & Mikkel E.G. Nielsen’s editing deserves reward for finding this balance too.

  • At its core, “Land” is a narrative of unimaginable grief, the type of ache that reshapes the panorama.

Wright’s movie is a lyrical character research about two deeply pained individuals who discover purpose in each other. Even as the huge panorama around them seems to recall the insignificance of one particular person against the great thing about Mother Nature, “Land” means that isolation isn’t the reply and connection is what issues. It’s a wise, moving piece of labor, hampered a bit by a rushed final act that feels considerably manipulative but confidently acted throughout. From acclaimed actress Robin Wright comes her directorial debut Land, the poignant story of 1 woman’s search for that means in the vast and harsh American wilderness.
