The PAC works with Congress and the manager branch by way of lobbying, policy growth, political field representatives, political communications and grassroots advocacy. This portion of the membership charge is considered nondeductible for revenue tax functions, pursuant to the Tax Reform Act of 1993. Local and state Realtor associations are primarily answerable for ensuring members adhere to the code, and a few have developed strategies for addressing member infractions. The association publishes an up to date version of the code each January in Realtor Magazine. The code demands respect for others’ exclusive relationships with shoppers and keeps disputes between members “in the family” by requiring Realtors to arbitrate or mediate conflicts. New members should attend an orientation and comply with abide by NAR’s Code of Ethics & Professional Standards, which outlines duties to clients and customers, the public and other Realtors.
